Ryan Brinkerhoff

I’ve been digging Ryan Brinkerhoff’s new work. That Deaf Geoff print is what’s up.

Niv Bavarsky

I like illustrator, Niv Bavarsky’s style.

Mr. Money Mustache

Mr. Money Mustache is a blog about saving money. I dare you not to get hooked and read it first post to last.

Once you are off the mill, you’ll feel like Neo did when he unplugged the suction cups from his pale naked body in The Matrix and looked around at the other imprisoned humans. “Holy crap!”, you will say. “I’ve been living in this ridiculous slave world and never noticed.. and everyone else still is! WAKE UP DRONE PEOPLE!!!”. You will suddenly be able to fly freely through the world, free from having to work for a living, able to start living life as you choose, doing exotic things like spending time raising your young children, taking a 3-week vacation each month, or just enjoying understated shows of leisure like sweeping your driveway in pajamas at 11am on a sunny Thursday morning.

Crazy Dubstep Dance

I found this on Kottke. I’m completely ignorant when it comes to the history of dance but I found it really interesting how digitally inspired these moves are. Around 1:12 he reminds me of scrubbing video back and forth. As a designer I’m aware of visual art using elements from digital media in the physical world, but it’s cool to see it done with something less obvious (to me at least) like dance.

It sort of reminds me of birds building their nests using plastic bags or paper scraps; reflecting their environment.

Big News

After three years of living in sin we’re planning to have the state of Illinois make our love official, Emma and I are engaged.

Noah Lambert

My good friend, Noah Lambert makes one of the finest wallets on the market. They’re now available in chestnut brown, dark brown and black.

Ask any welder, woodworker, or tailor where their products are most likely to fail. They’ll point to the weld, the joint, or the seam — anywhere two pieces of material are fastened together.

That’s why the simplest products are often the most durable.

To ensure my wallets last a lifetime, I create each from a single piece of leather using only two seams.
I exclusively use 5oz vegetable tanned bridle leather from Wickett & Craig of Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s oldest and most respected tanneries. Wallets are saddle stitched by hand using Barbour’s Red Hand 5 cord linen thread to create a seam twice as durable as the common lockstitch.

Shopping for a Website

Whether you’re a student setting up your first site or you’re a soft-bellied old pro, getting your work online involves WAY too many choices. If you plan to hand-code it yourself or pay someone else to, good for you, but if you’re like me you’d probably rather stand on the shoulders of giants and just fiddle with the CSS.

The ubiquity of the Cargo site was a turn-off for me. They make a great product but I wanted a different look and more functionality. I went with WordPress.

The links below are the creme of my search results for a suitable WP portfolio theme. I’d like to hear about any other resources you guys know of, WP or not, so please share.

*I went with Classica by Orman Clark of Premium Pixels for this site.

Philosophy Posters

This poster series by Genis Carreras is a beautiful work of minimalism. There is so much you can do with simple geometric shapes, I can see how some designers and artists devote their lives to exploring them.
